Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has reveal that he almost convinced Luka Modric to come to Old Trafford before moving to Real Madrid.
Ferdinand The Croatian international superstar made a name for himself playing ufabet for Spurs before going on to achieve great success with “White King”, which Rio said tried to convince Modric to join the “Red Devils”, but the club ended up bringing Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund.
“I spoke to him before moving to Real Madrid. Because that’s what I always do. I am the player’s agent. I was an agent for Rio before I retire,” Rio told Five YouTube.
“Any player who is available or is coming up. I thought I could talk to them, even Thiago Alcantara of Liverpool, I spoke to him before leaving Barcelona for Bayern Munich and it. It almost happened but we brought [Marouane] Fellaini instead.”
“But with Modric, I remember talking to him, I said ‘are you leaving [Tottenham]?’ and he said ‘yes, I think I’m leaving’. But he wasn’t sure at the time where he was going to move.
“I said, ‘Listen, you have to come to United, guys’ and he said, ‘Okay, I want to be the first Croatian player to play for Man United, I want to be that person. Did we make it happen?'”
“But it didn’t happen. I spoke to David Gill and the manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) at the time and they had agreed to sign Shinji Kagawa, I think it was that year. Or they’re going to negotiate with a player and they make a deal and then Modric goes to Madrid and then it’s history.
“But I never imagined what he could do in what he did. Absolutely brilliant.”
